Introduction
Puerto Vallarta, nestled between palm-covered mountains, a river and an azure sea, sits in front of a gorgeous sandy beach.
The city has mutated from a sleepy seaside village into an international resort.
There are dolphins in the bay year-round, and humpback whales between November and March.
You'll also find resorts for every taste and budget along 25 miles of beaches; plus water sports, golf, horseback riding through the jungle, sport fishing and much more.
Puerto Vallarta stretches itself languidly along the shoreline of an exceptionally beautiful bay on Mexico's central Pacific coast.

Getting There & Around
Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport is off the highway 10km (6mi) north of town, near the Marina Vallarta. A number of Mexican and US carriers touch down here after direct flights from domestic hubs like Mexico City, Tijuana, Guadalajara and León, and North American cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas and Chicago. A kilometre or two north of the airport is a long-distance bus station, which connects the resort with northern destinations.
To get from the airport to town, you can take a taxi, a Colectivos (a minibus that’s a cross between standard buses and a taxi), or a camiones (local bus).
They run set routes throughout the city and the coastal strips at either end, stopping at all of the major hotels as they go.
Water taxis ply the bay between the resort and most of the surrounding beaches.
Attractions
Bahia de Banderas : Ostensibly the submerged crater of a long-extinguished volcano, Bahia de Banderas is an environmental wonderland populated by giant manta rays, dolphins and (November through March) humpback whales.
Beaches : The beautiful local beaches begin in town, south of the river Rio Cuale, and head north of town into the aptly titled Zona Hotelera.
While a string of northern beaches are dominated by multi-storey hotel shadows, you'll pass some beautiful beaches up towards the Marina Vallarta, such as Playa Camarones, Las Palmas and Playa de Oro.
